My journey into the field of mental health began with a passion for helping others and a dedication to making a positive impact. My name is Boisey Bristo, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a master's degree in clinical psychology from Walden University, where I specialized in counseling. My professional experience spans various settings, including intensive outpatient programs (IOP), partial hospitalization programs (PHP), inpatient care, community-based care, and a comprehensive neurorehabilitation clinic. These diverse experiences have shaped my understanding that therapy is fundamentally about building relationships, not just applying theories.

In my practice, I emphasize the importance of developing a safe and empowering therapeutic alliance with my clients. This relationship is the cornerstone of effective therapy, where trust and understanding allow for meaningful growth and healing. As a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional and a Certified Brain Injury Specialist, I bring specialized knowledge to address specific challenges such as anxiety and traumatic brain injuries. My approach integrates mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral techniques, and person-centered strategies, tailored to meet each client's unique needs and circumstances. In September 2023, I took a significant step in my career by opening my private practice, Bristo Counseling. This decision was driven by a desire to make mental health care accessible and to destigmatize seeking help, particularly within communities of color. My guiding principle, "life is meant to be experienced, not controlled," reflects my commitment to fostering an environment where clients feel supported and understood. As an African American therapist, I strive to be an ally for health and wellness, helping to break down barriers and encourage open conversations about mental health.
