Passion for Helping Others: A Dedication to Making a Positive Impact

My professional journey in the field of mental health is rooted in a genuine commitment to support individuals and fostering positive change. My name is Boisey Bristo, and I am a Licensed Professional Counselor with a master’s degree in clinical psychology, specializing in counseling from Walden University. I possess extensive experience across multiple settings, including intensive outpatient programs (IOP), partial hospitalization programs (PHP), inpatient care, community-based services, and neurorehabilitation clinics. These varied roles have enriched my perspective and reinforced the belief that effective therapy is predicated upon strong therapeutic relationships rather than solely on theoretical frameworks.

In clinical practice, I prioritize establishing a safe, empowering therapeutic alliance with each client. This relationship serves as the foundation for successful therapeutic outcomes, enabling trust, understanding, and meaningful progress. As a Certified Clinical Anxiety Treatment Professional, Certified Brain Injury Specialist, and Somatic EMDR practitioner, I offer targeted expertise to address concerns such as anxiety, trauma, and traumatic brain injuries. My approach integrates mindfulness, cognitive-behavioral interventions, and person-centered methodologies, individually tailored to meet the unique needs of every client. I view myself not merely as a provider, but as a collaborative partner in each client’s pursuit of well-being.

In September 2023, I launched my private practice, Bristo Counseling, motivated by a dedication to improving access to mental health care and reducing stigma, particularly within communities of color. Guided by the principle that “life is meant to be experienced, not controlled,” I strive to cultivate an environment characterized by support and understanding. As an African American therapist, I am committed to promoting health and wellness, dismantling barriers, and encouraging open dialogue surrounding mental health.
